St. Lorenz has been blessed with a strong team of pastors to lead and serve the members of St. Lorenz and the community as a whole.
Pastor Mark Brandt – Lead Pastor
I’m living the dream! My earliest memory of being asked what I wanted to be when I grew up is that I always answered: “I want to be a pastor.” I know that can sound strange. Most little boys want to be a super hero or ball player or fireman or garbage collector. Not me. I see three potential explanations for that:
- I’m weird
- My father was a pastor
- God called me.
Without being overly dramatic, I believe the third reason is the main one. I’ve never once been sorry for answering God’s call and have found great satisfaction in serving Him and His people. I’ve been doing that at St. Lorenz since 1990, first as an Associate Pastor and, since 1998, as Lead Pastor.
The primary task of any pastor is to apply God’s Word to people’s lives. The main focus of my position is to build relationships with the staff, lay leaders, and members of our congregation and with the community by being a welcoming, visible presence as I provide vision and direction for the corporate life of the congregation. In that capacity, I’m responsible for our worship services, day-to-day ministry decisions and programming, direct supervision of the pastoral team and general oversight of the entire staff.
On behalf of our pastoral team, our ministry staff, and our entire congregation, I extend a heart-felt welcome to you. I’m sure you will find St. Lorenz to be an exciting, welcoming, and nurturing place. Please contact me to let us know how we can serve you.
Pastor Caleb Adams – Connections Ministry
Hi, I’m Pastor Adams! My wife Emily and I have been married since 2006 and are the proud parents of Ethan and Anna. I enjoy playing the guitar, playing tennis and any other sport you can think of, and rooting for the St. Louis Cardinals! Emily and I both grew up in Oregon and miss the beautiful mountains and scenery there, but we are loving Michigan and feel very at home here in Frankenmuth!
I serve as the Connections Pastor at St. Lorenz. My main focus is on building relationships with those who are not connected to the traditional worship and ministries of the congregation. This involves coordinating and leading the Connect worship service, spearheading St. Lorenz’s social media efforts, and seeking to reach the people of the Frankenmuth community with the love of Jesus. I am thrilled to be part of the ministry God is accomplishing at St. Lorenz and look forward to what He has in store for us in the future! Feel free to contact me if you have questions about our ministry.
Pastor Shawn Fenske – Pastoral Care
“What do you want to do with your life? Do you want to follow God or follow your friends?” A good friend of mine asked me those questions shortly after I reconnected with the church. He knew I had a heart to help others, and challenged me to consider using my gifts serving the Lord. At the time, I was working as an Emergency Medical Technician in the East Bay Area of California. Those questions opened my eyes to what I already knew deep down, (on the ambulance, you quickly learn what matters). God used my experiences to show me that those who had a faith life just seem to do better. The biggest reason is the hope He provides us.
I graduated from the Seminary in St. Louis, MO in June of 2007. Shortly afterwards I married my wife, Noelle. For a little over nine years it was just the two of us. We had tried to have children of our own, but the Lord had different plans. In Dec 2016, we welcomed our first foster care child into our home. Our lives have been richly blessed by this little girl. God’s plan has been wonderfully overwhelming and beyond words.
The community of Frankenmuth, and the members of St. Lorenz have been a tremendous form of support. I am honored to serve this community as the Pastoral Care pastor here at St. Lorenz. I took over this role in January 2017, and it allows me the chance to share my heart in the caring and compassion ministries that St. Lorenz has to offer.
I thank the Lord that someone cared enough to show me I have something to contribute. Now I get to help others and share the love that Christ has for them. So what is God doing in your life? I would love the chance to sit down and talk with you about it. Contact Pastor Fenske
Pastor Joel Kaiser – Pastor to the School and School Families
“For we walk by faith, and not by sight.” -2 Corinthians 5:7
Hello! My name is Pastor Joel Kaiser and I serve as the Pastor to the School & Families at St. Lorenz. I have been in this position since 2012, and have served at St. Lorenz since 1998. It continues to be a privilege and a joy to serve God’s people in this great congregation and school, and in this wonderful locale!! I pray that God blesses you through your connection with St. Lorenz as much as He has blessed me and my family!! My wife, Pamela, and I, and our 5 children have all experienced the love and grace of our Heavenly Father here through the people whom God has called to be part of this “Family.” The St. Lorenz Family definitely demonstrates “How Beautiful it is to Live With Jesus!”
As I interact with students, families and faculty, I am reminded of how challenging life can be at times, especially when we cannot “see” what lies ahead. Perhaps that is why the verse from II Corinthians above is so powerful to me. Dealing with my own visual impairment has caused me to daily apply the lessons learned from my “physical walk” to my “spiritual walk,” and learning the meaning of “walking by faith.” I pray that God uses me to assist others in growing in their “faith-walk” as well! Feel free to contact me if you have questions about our ministry.
Vicar Chris Garcia
Hello, I’m Vicar Garcia! My wife, Liz, and I have three children. Our daughters Lucy and Madelyn attend St. Lorenz School and Preschool respectively. Our son, Gabriel, is a happy one year old who likes to make people laugh. As Vicar at St. Lorenz I am not a pastor but a student-intern from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, MO. I have been assigned to St. Lorenz for a year where I will learn how to serve as a pastor in the future. Before seminary I served as Youth Leader at St. Paul Lutheran in Flint, MI and my undergrad was in Youth and Family ministry.
St. Lorenz is a congregation with so many active ministries that I get to be a part of and serve alongside. You might see me leading Bible studies and VBS. I also preach, visit members that are home-bound and in the hospital. I connect with our school in various ways including teaching part of our confirmation instruction.
I have a passion for sharing the love of Jesus with my community, so if you see me around town stop me and say hello; I enjoy making new friends!I thank God for this opportunity to learn and grow with you as together we see “how beautiful it is to live with Jesus!”
Please contact me if you have any questions about faith, life, or any of our ministries. I will be sure to serve you as best I can.
