What to expect when you visit
Our worship services are open to all people, regardless of religious affiliation. St. Lorenz members are friendly and welcoming – we love to see guests in church! When you worship here, you will find people dressed in a variety of ways. Some prefer to wear a dress or suit and tie; others are more comfortable in more casual wear. Some people dress very informally. It’s a matter of personal preference and our members respect the right of others to dress in whatever way they feel is most appropriate.
The atmosphere at our services is both respectful and joyful, never stiff or overly formal. We worship a great God and are happy to come into His presence, sing His praises, and hear His Word. Services last about an hour. The sermons are based on the Bible and seek to apply the truths of God’s Word to the lives of His people.
How to become a member
The process for becoming a part of our congregation is not difficult. Depending on an individual’s prior church affiliation, one of the procedures listed below is usually followed:
If you are an active member of a congregation in The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, you may join us by transferring your membership to St. Lorenz. Please request that your current congregation send us a copy of your transfer. Then contact the St. Lorenz church office (652-0771) and we will be happy to speak with you. We will provide you with an application for membership and a copy of our Congregational Covenant as well as a schedule of the times our Welcome to St. Lorenz class meets. This is a 6-hour class taught by Pastor Brandt. It is part of the process for everyone considering membership here.
Re-Affirmation of Faith
If you have been confirmed in the Lutheran Church but have not been active in recent years, you may join St. Lorenz by re-affirmation of faith. In addition to the steps mentioned above, you will be asked to meet with a pastor to review the basic teachings of the Bible as you were taught them in confirmation class.
If you have never been a member of a Lutheran Church, you may join St. Lorenz through Adult Confirmation. That process includes the steps listed above plus our 10-12 hour Christianity 101 class. This class is taught by Pastor Adams.
