What we Believe

We are a Lutheran Christian congregation who believes in the truth of God’s Word, the grace of Jesus Christ, and the power of the Holy Spirit to help us share our faith with others. We are affiliated with the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod for accountability and support. Much of what we believe can be summarized using three phrases that came out of the Protestant Reformation.

Grace Alone
God loves the people of the world, even though they are sinful. He sent Jesus, His Son, to sacrifice Himself for us in order to save us from our sins. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”

Faith Alone

By His suffering and death as the substitute for all people of all time, Jesus purchased and won forgiveness and eternal life for us. Those who hear this Good News and believe in God have the eternal life that it offers. Through the work of the Holy Spirit, God creates faith in Christ and gives people forgiveness through Him.

Scripture Alone
The Bible is God’s inspired and inerrant Word, in which He reveals who He is and the nature our relationship with Him. God also shares His Law and His Gospel. Therefore, we believe that the Bible is our source and standard for faith and life.

Our Church Family

Transfer

If you are an active member of a congregation in The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, you may join us by transferring your membership to St. Lorenz. Please request that your current congregation send us a copy of your transfer. Then contact the St. Lorenz church office (989-652-0771). We will provide you with an application for membership as well as a schedule of the times our Welcome to St. Lorenz class meets.

Re-affirmation of Faith

If you have been confirmed in the Lutheran Church but have not been active in recent years, you may join St. Lorenz by re-affirmation of faith. In addition to the steps mentioned above, you will be asked to meet with a pastor to review the basic teachings of the Bible as you were taught them in confirmation class.

Adult Confirmation

If you have never been a member of a Lutheran Church, you may join St. Lorenz through Adult Confirmation. The process includes the steps listed above plus our 10-12 hour Christianity 101 class.
